The news gets even BETTER! Kazoo has been meeting with a potential adopter over the past 2 weeks. The canididate was very thoughtful and wanted to make sure that he had everything in place and was knowledgeable about Kazoo's needs. After a little thinking and prepwork...drum roll please.......
KAZOO HAS FOUND HIS FOREVER HOME!!!!!
He has a wonderful new dad that took him home and is ready to help Kazoo start the best life EVER! He went from close to be euthanized to having one of the best homes a dog could ever dream of!
Thank you to everyone who helped Kazoo through his journey... there are too many to name, but from the people in South Carolina, the wonderful people at South Paws, all the Lucky Dog volunteers and fosters that helped along the way... It takes a village!!!!

Kazoo goes on a picnic!

Kazoo was invited to a fundraising picnic this past week. He went to strut his stuff and really impressed everyone. Christine, his foster, took him up to Baltimore for this event being held by Walter-rescue. These guys help rescue dogs that have high medical costs by just holding fund raising events to cover the bills. This event was in LuckyDog's honor. Bogey and Kazoo both attended and had a great time.

Kazoo was able to show that he could chill and not go wild, so Christine allowed him off his leash at the picnic. He did well staying in his medical guidelines of not jumping or running. I'm sure the end of those restrictions can't come quick enough for Kazoo!

He is progressing well and will be as good as new very soon!

On Sunday, he went to an adoption event and met a few people that loved him to death. Hopefully, one of them will want him to be part of their family. There were so many dogs... probably over 40 and then over 30 puppies, so Kazoo had a lot of competition.

Kazoo has been amazing with the kids in his house... he hangs out with the daycare kids that the foster has and just loves on them! He gets along with all the dogs in the house and just can't wait to have his fur-ever home!

From Kazoo's Foster

Considering he's just come out of surgery, Kazoo is one very easy
going sweetheart. He's forced to spend most of his day in a crate to
keep him still and sometimes you might hear a tiny bit of barking
until he settles down and then he's perfectly content to watch the
world go on around him. Though he's interacting with his 3 foster
siblings through barred walls, you can barely tell the separation is
there. Once he's fully recovered he will want lots of activity, he's
already trying to use the leg that was operated on. He's no
complainer, just a sweet dog who wants an active companion or two.

Kazoo has a new foster ... times THREE!

Thanks to some managerial magic by Kristen, Kazoo has his foster care all set. He is now with Anne -- who reports he is doing just fine after his surgery! He will move to Cris for the weekend & share July 4th with her... and then goes to Christine on Monday. YAY team Lucky Dog!

Kazoo needs a foster!

Kazoo's foster bailed this morning... we need a place for him to go to recover from his surgery!!! He will be on crate rest and should be in a single family home where his barking won't matter. (He is not a huge fan of the crate). He also will need to be able to get outside without too many steps. If you can help, please email us at info@luckydoganimalrescue.org!

Kazoo's surgery was a success!

Kazoo had surgery yesterday, and it was a huge success!! We will be picking him up today. More to come soon!

Kazoo's Story

Kazoo is one of those dogs that often gets over looked in the shelter. His pictures weren't great -- he was scared of the camera. He isn't a golden retriever or a cute scruffy dog. But, he is very special -- and the folks at the Franklin County shelter knew it!

Lucky Dog received a desperate email from Franklin County about Kazoo. One of the shelter workers had spent some time with him. Though he was scared at first, he warmed up quickly with a treat and a small amount of affection. It turns out he was starving in more ways than one!

Kazoo was literally an hour away from being put to sleep. His time was up, and Lucky Dog was his only hope. So, trusting the word of our shelter partner, we agreed to bring Kazoo to DC. He arrived on a Saturday and happily went to his foster home. It was there a bit of a limp was noticed.

After observing him the first night, Kazoo's foster realized he was definitely in pain. His limp was growing more pronounced. So, off he went to see Dr. Smith at Hayfield Animal Hospital. The news was encouraging . . . yet staggering at the same time. Kazoo has what is called a "luxating patella." That means the patella is unstable and doesnt sit in its groove. Although the condition is totally fixable, the fix requires surgery!!

The very next day, Kazoo went to see Dr. Norton, a surgeon at Southpaws Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Center. Dr. Norton confirmed the diagnosis. Kazoo was in need of surgery. Although Kazoo was not facing an emergency situation, Dr Norton agreed that doing surgery sooner rather than later would help ease Kazoo's pain. He had an opening the following day, and Kazoo was scheduled!
